Formal Strategic Planning
Formal Strategic Planning provides the structured process to enable businesses to make informed decisions on how it should plan to proceed and organise itself to achieve its sustainable goals, and get the best possible return on effort.
The process is based on proven techniques that have been extensively researched by many leading academics and practising consultancies that have provided extensive evidence to prove its effectiveness.
Whilst the principles are universal the process must be tailored to the individual market sectors and client profiles and we have been successfully implementing and evolving this in the construction and engineering industries over the past 20 years.
Our approach has four key stages listed below and is depicted in the flow chart illustrated below.

Diagnosis
It is often surprising to clients how much information is available in the public domain ranging from government statistics and planning documents, web sites and Companies House. We conduct thorough research and reviews of i) the Client Business, ii) the Market, iii) the client's Customer base and iv) the Competition.
Strategic 'Positioning'
in conjunction with the client, we assess the Strengths & Weaknesses of the business and the Opportunities & Threats in the market place and using our bespoke software, develop a profile of the best positioning and strategy for the business under these circumstances. From this we can distil the strategic imperatives to enable the strategy to be delivered, from this the Action Plans are developed.
Action Planning
The extensive academic research mentioned in the introduction above did identify that on occasions some of the most robust plans failed because businesses failed to translate and implement the work done in the planning phase into the business operation. A key differential advantage of our approach is the development of detailed Action Plans and implementation programmes. We conduct this exercise in conjunction with the client's team to create ownership and to ensure their knowledge and experience is integrated into the planning process.
Implementation & Evaluation
Because we bring the experience gained from a successful management background we appreciate that a Plan can only deliver if properly implemented. Consequently, we provide on-going support to the client's team to ensure that the Plans are implemented both to the letter but also to the spirit of the Plans. In addition, we help our clients establish Evaluation procedures to ensure the Plan is 'on track' and to measure effectiveness against stated business objectives.
